बीजेपी विधायक अरविंद लिंबावल्ली ने उत्तरी बेंगलुरु के करिअम्मना अग्रहारा क्षेत्र का एक वीडियो ट्वीट किया, जिसमें दावा किया गया था कि बस्तियां अवैध बांग्लादेशी प्रवासियों की हैं। जिसके बाद रविवार को इन घरों को बुल्डोजर से गिरा दिया गया और हजारों लोग एक झटके में बेघर हो गए। वहां की बिजली और पानी की आपूर्ति तीन दिन पहले ही काट दी गई थी। हालांकि, सच्चाई इसके अलग निकली और इन बस्तियों में रहने वाले ज्यादातर लोग असम, त्रिपुरा और उत्तरी कर्नाटक के निकले।

मीडिया की एक रिपोर्ट के मुताबिक, झुग्गियों को गिराए जाने के बाद इनमें रहने वाले लोगों से कथित तौर पर जमीन खाली करने को कहा गया है। वहीं बृहद बेंगलुरु महानगर पालिका ने घटना पर जारी अपने बयान में कहा है कि इन झुग्गियों को अवैध तरीके से गैरकानूनी बांग्लादेशी प्रवासियों ने बनाया था। जिन्होंने इस इलाके को एक मलिन बस्ती में बदल दिया था। इसके चलते आस-पड़ोस के इलाकों का माहौल खराब हो रहा था। जिसे लेकर म्युनिसिपालिटी के पास काफी शिकायतें आ रही थीं। इस इलाके में पानी और बिजली की सप्लाई तीन दिन पहले ही काट दी गई थी।
