LegalEdge (Toprankers) Founders to be Jailed in CLAT 2026 Topper Controversy?

Serious questions have emerged following an FIR related to CLAT 2026 AIR-1.

After the results of CLAT 2026, India’s top law entrance examination, the issue has gone beyond ranks and coaching claims. Following the filing of an FIR by Law Prep Tutorial against directors of LegalEdge (Toprankers), a key question is now being widely discussed:

Will the founders of Toprankers face jail in this case?

This question has gained importance because the allegations mentioned in the FIR are being described not as a mere commercial dispute, but as matters of a criminal nature.

What is the Entire Case About?

According to the FIR registered at Shastri Nagar Police Station, Jodhpur, the complaint was filed by Law Prep Tutorial. The FIR alleges that the CLAT 2026 AIR-1 Geetali Gupta was pressured into recording a video in which she was made to state that she was not a student of Law Prep Tutorial.

The FIR has been registered because:

  • Geetali Gupta had studied under Law Prep Tutorial’s Online CLAT Coaching – OG Batch
  • The OG Batch is a specialised programme designed to train the top 50 CLAT aspirants
  • The student used Law Prep Tutorial’s mock tests, Game Changer Kit, and other study material

Despite this, it is alleged that LegalEdge exerted pressure on the student and her family through a contractual agreement, compelling her to give a contradictory statement.

Why Was the FIR Filed?

As per the FIR, it is alleged that:

  • The student was forced to give a video statement
  • The video was used on digital platforms and as advertisements
  • The purpose was to mislead students and parents
  • An attempt was made to damage the reputation of Law Prep Tutorial

Based on these allegations, the police registered an FIR and initiated an investigation.

Who Has Been Named in the FIR?

According to the FIR, the names of four directors associated with LegalEdge (Toprankers), along with the student and her father, have been included.

  • Harsh Gargani – Director, LegalEdge (Toprankers), Madhya Pradesh
  • Karan Mehta – Director, LegalEdge (Toprankers), Madhya Pradesh
  • Neeraj Nagarsheth – Director, LegalEdge (Toprankers), Madhya Pradesh
  • Gaurav Goyal – Director, LegalEdge (Toprankers), Madhya Pradesh
  • Geetali Gupta – CLAT 2026 Topper, Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan
  • Jagdish Kumar Gupta – Father of the student, Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan

However, Law Prep Tutorial has clarified that the purpose of the legal action is not to target any student, but to bring the alleged institutional practices under the scrutiny of law.

Will LegalEdge Founders Go to Jail?

In such circumstances:

  • The police may file a chargesheet
  • The court may take cognisance
  • And depending on the outcome of the investigation and evidence, punishment or imprisonment is possible

This matter is being seen as serious because it involves allegations that a national-level topper was put under pressure, her academic journey was allegedly used as a marketing tool, and students and parents were allegedly misled.

If these allegations are proven, the case may go beyond coaching competition and raise concerns about student exploitation and breach of trust.
